Volta was wormed with an Equimax worm paste on the 15th March and was given 500g
Volta trying to think about the paste taste!
Measurements for March 2013:
Poll to muzzle: 71cm no change
Chin to shoulder (neck length) : 75cm no change
Mane length: 22cm ( mane was cut December ) increased 2 cm
Back length: wither to top dock: 124cm no increase
Tail length top of dock to end tail: 68cm ( after being chewed ) increased by 3cm
Hind length top of coronet band to hock: 69cm no change
Front leg length top of coronet to elbow: 97cm no change
Hind quarters: from ground to top of rump: 163cm increased by 2cm
From wither : ground to top of wither: 162cm =15.3 3/4hh ( increased by 2 cm )
For the month of March Volta was up behind meaning he is again going through a small growth spurt. He is now 15.3 3/4 hh and he is only 26 months old, his conformation is changing slowly and visually they seem minimal because we see him everyday but when you look at his measurements he has done a lot of growing during his short life. When Volta arrived in October 2011 he was only 9 months of age and his measurements were taken for the very first time in March 2012. Lets compare them to this year March 2013…..
Poll to end muzzle: in March 2012 59cm – now 71cm
Chin to shoulder: in March 2012 56cm – now 75cm
Mane length: in March 2012 10cm – now and after being trimmed 22cm
Back length: in March 2012 wither to top dock: 112cm – now 124cm
Tail length top of dock to end tail: in March 2012 73cm – now after being trimmed ALOT by another youngster” 68cm
Hind length top of coronet band to hock: in March 2012 47cm – now 69cm
Front leg length top of coronet to elbow: in March 2012 83cm – 97cm
Height: in March 2012 142cm = 14hh approx. – now 15.3 3/4 hh
Our posts have been going now for 12 months and my drawings have improved since my first post in 2012″ , the journey of watching a young colt grow each month has been a very interesting one. Measurements of body growth would be different for all horses as there are many different breed types which differ greatly in body conformation. Volta’s weight over the 12 months has changed and now to date is slowing down , he weighed 434kg in March 2012 and March 2013 he has weighed in at 498kg nearly reaching the big 500kg!
