Pictures & videos from April

It was a very busy month at Lals Haven Goat Stud during the month of April. We finished our brand new pygmy goat shed. It looks like a fancy mansion on the hill. Ever since we opened the doors they have not wanted to come out. We are thrilled with the outcome. Knowing the will all be safe, secure, warm and cosy during our cold wet winter months ahead makes us feel so good inside.

My husband has built everything here by hand. In the start we used all second hand wood to get things going. This shed was to be quite large open and above head height. Making it very easy for us to walk around inside. The other special features include the ultimate hay feeder which has no waste – yes I said it no waste. It has taken years to perfect and he did it!

Plus we purchased a $50 calf feeder that has 10 single bays. It is absolutely fabulous. I can walk into the shed and place feed in the feeders without being amongst the pygmys. I am in pygmy heaven right now. This is the best creation and the ladies are strutting around like they are in heaven with me ha ha.

We are expecting 10 does to kid starting in mid June right through to September. Normally I only do 6, but with so many does of the right age and looking good we decided to do them all. Senator Smoochs, Maxwell Smart, Paul Hogan all had turns in doing the task. We have scanned all the does with the best ultrasound on the market – ScanX. Its the best peace of mind knowing how may kids to expect and seeing healthy kids growing.

The floor needs to be finished- we like to put floor tiles down. It is so simple to sweep the manure away and clean. No smells and I can even disinfect easily. We still use the best hay nets available from Just Grazin Custom Nets. They give more options for the younger does to obtain a good pick of fodder. Less bullying and more relaxation. If you have not tried these you are missing out. Ours are over 5years old and still no tears or replacements and they are used every single day. I have added the larger sized ones to hold more hay.

Stay tuned for our ScanX scans next month and some new gorgeous kids at Lals Haven Goat Stud.
