Sale incorp Vic Championships

Hello all, what a great weekend of top class showjumping. Sale showjumping club have really mastered the art of running fantastic showjumping shows. The grounds were immaculate as was the weather. The jumping equipment looks stunning in both rings and there is always plenty of room for the warm up arenas. Gavin Chester designed great courses for all levels starting at 1.10m right up 1.45m. The days were long because of the large number of riders in each class but each ring ran well due to the efficiency of top gate stewards.

Team Joyce arrived on Saturday morning with LH King Arthur and LH Johnny. We set up our yards and waited for the 1.25m class to start. Wes rode Bolero de la Vie in this class and he jumped a nice clean round but had two rails down in the jump off. He then attempted the 1.35m with Ulouve BZ, this was the first time she was to start straight up at this height. She handled it with ease and only had the last two fences, she is really showing great promise for the future. Then it was the Kings turn and he was just amazing. LH King Arthur jumped clean in the first round and was the only clean in the jump off to come away with a well deserved win. Wes was smiling in the line up and felt very proud with Arthur’s performance as he just keeps on stepping up.

The last class of the day was the 1.04m with LH Johnny and Wes was riding him today as Tiffany only came home from China on Friday and was driving over on Sunday morning for a ride in the afternoon. Johnny did not bat an eye lid at anything on course, having two months off really has only made him more relaxed, that’s if one came become more relaxed. Johnny just seems to be a born jumper!

On Sunday Tiffany arrived by lunch time and was in there to watch her dad in the 1.30m with Bolero de la Vie and Ulouve BZ. Bolero jumped another clean round and Ulouve had the very last fence down. In the jump off Bolero had one rail and time penalties. Then it was the 1.40m class for LH King Arthur and he jumped his heart out with two down one after the other at about 5 and 6 but them jumped super right to the end. Are we disappointed you may ask, no not at all. Wes is extremely happy with his ability to try and then keep on trying he is a very clean jumper with lots of ability and just needs more rounds on good grounds. As soon as we get back off come the jumping boots and on with the ice boots and then bandaged straight away to keep his legs at a constant temperature. Its all management , that’s the key to a good sound jumping horse and Arthur is worth all the time and effort.

Then finally it was Tiffany’s turn to ride her favorite Johnny in the 1.05m Championship. There were 60 horses and only 6 jumped clean and Johnny was one of those. Tiffany was stoked to place second and thanked her dad for riding, shoeing and taking him to the show for her to just have a nice fun ride. Johnny is turning out to be a special young  horse showing a lot of promise. The day ended late and we had packed up and left by 6.30pm and were home by 9pm. Its always nice to get home and unload and watch how happy your horses are to be home in bed, you can tell all they want to do is eat and sleep just like us!!
